Replaceable

Some months ago on a particular Sunday in church, I noticed the outfit a young lady, who I will call Ms. X, was wearing and felt as though this was the same outfit she has been wearing the last few times I saw her. For those that know me well, it was an unusual experience for me, as it is a struggle for me to remember what I wore to church by the next Sunday, let alone take note of what others wore. Interestingly, for this young lady, we had reasons to see on the average twice a week for over a month and I suddenly felt as though I always saw her wearing the same outfit. Almost immediately while I was still reflecting on it, I heard clearly in my Spirit, you need to purchase an outfit for Ms. X. I debated this thought in my mind, keeping in mind my bank account balance at the time and all the other expenses I had lined up. After a couple of days, I guess you say I crossed the first huddle, I decided I will buy her an outfit. While the idea was interesting, I was not sure how the logis...

FACE YOUR TRAFFIC LIGHT

Image
My son is at the age when they learn about traffic lights at school and it always interesting for him to ‘co-pilot' with me when I drive them to school:-) . Recently, I remembered an incident that happened, when my daughter was at that age. One day her class teacher saw my husband and wanted to discuss “something important” with him. The ‘something important’ turned out to be a question as to why he beats traffic light. They have been learning about traffic lights in school and my daughter had challenged the teacher that her daddy goes on red. My husband was surprised and understandably embarrassed but told the teacher there must be a mix-up somewhere.  It was indeed a mix up as it turned out that at a junction on the way home, there were two separate traffic lights, one for those going straight and one for those turning right. The confusion was that she had expected that both lights needs to be green for us to turn right but her daddy usually turned right when the tra...

NO YOU CANT HAVE SCISSORS!!!

Image
The other day I was going to get a few items from a bookshop and I decided to take my children along and grab pizza afterwards. All was going well in the bookshop until my son saw a pair of scissors and asked me to get it for him to which I responded “No you can’t have scissors - it’s dangerous”. He acted as though  he did not hear or understand me and kept pleading for it. Interestingly, he even remembered his manners and said please mummy like a million times and I was so impressed by sudden display of maturity. The truth is if he had asked for something else in the same manner, I would have given him. However, he asked a hard thing as I knew that those pair of scissors he wanted will do more harm than good and so while I felt sympathy for him, I did not indulge him. Being a child, he started crying profusely and we had to leave the mall almost immediately without going for the Pizza. He had cried so much that he slept off on the ride home so I just put him straight to b...

Where are the "GOOD NEIGHBORS"?

Image
Where are the good neighbors? I was visiting my mum’s church last Sunday and was really touched by a story one of the ministers shared. I was touched on two fronts, first by what she did which left a warm feeling in my heart but this was quickly taken over by sadness of the reality of “ Who we have become ”. According to her, while on her way to church that morning, they had stopped at a traffic light and she was about 3 rd or 4 th car from the front. When the light turned green, they noticed the first car did not move, people honked and hooted yet the car did not move. The other car drivers started to maneuver their way around the first car and drove off. She did the same. When she got near the car she noticed the driver in the car had his head bowed down as do in deep sleep and she drove past. A few meters forward, she felt a nudge to go and check on the driver. She parked her car and walked back to confirm if the driver was OK. Apparently the man had some sort of ‘seizure’ a...

When Mercy Speaks

Oh my God… my worst nightmare has just come to pass or am I dreaming, yes indeed it is true… I hear their voices… I have been caught… but I thought I was been careful… I am not supposed to be caught… Oh my God… what’s happening… the shame... my family… they can’t stand the shame... God can you hear me now… I will be stoned to death… no one knows my story… no one cares really… the crowd is following and chanting profanity against me… they are justified… after all I was caught in the act… the very act… I deserve the punishment… oh the shame… the humiliation… I am in the temple waiting for my judgement. The law must hold, nothing or no one can upturn it now. The sooner this is over with, the better and I wish they did not have to take me before the new Rabbi, Jesus, I have heard vaguely about him, the one who works miracles, I truly need a miracle today, but then I don’t deserve one… I was still lost in my thoughts that I did not notice the silence, oh so silent it was deafening, but...

CHASING SHADOWS

Image
I wish I really knew what awaits at the end of each path Have you ever wondered how many decisions you make in a typical day? Have you ever wondered how many of those decisions were the right ones? How many were wrong? Are there decisions you wish you never made till this day? What was the best decision you ever made? I can hear some of you already saying, it is only Uche that will bother to analyze such, but indulge me and read on. J As my curiosity mounted, I decided to find some answers on Google. It is not surprising that there are many different opinions on this topic including scientific researches, however while they could not all agree a number; most of them agree that we make at least 500 decisions a day? Yes 500 decisions!!! That is, we choose between alternatives at least 500 times a day! Now imagine that only 10% of your decisions are wrong, I think that is still a lot. Interestingly, about the same time I was pondering on the word choices especia...

God's Leadership Academy

illustration - Joseph interpreting the Butler dream while the Baker looks on When my sister in law got married, my daughter was chosen as the little bride – a role she was very proud to perform. However, there was one little problem; I had not been able to convince her on why her aunty was getting married especially as this meant that her aunty was going to move out of our house. Eventually, I came up with an answer that yours truly believed was a very good one. She is getting married to become a mommy just like me, after all, how was I to explain the concept that boy meets girl and they fall in love and get married? The last I tried explaining the boy/girl love thing when she was younger, I simply failed. I tried to keep it simple by saying words to the effect that mummy and daddy are husband and wife because they love each other but I did not quite hit it because, she smiled, and then told me she had a great idea “I love my baby brother, so he will be my husband and I will be ...
