YOU CAN'T GET ME!!!!!

Image
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High, shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty, I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God in whom I trust… Ps91:1-2 It was not until I heard our nanny calling out “come here, it is time to take your bath” did I realize what was going on. A few seconds before my son ran into the bedroom, shut the door so quickly and loudly, ran to his father’s side as thou he was been chased by a 100 angry dogs. Interestingly, once he sat next to his father, he wore a big grin as someone who had won a lottery.  He almost had the look of you can’t catch me or as I now realized “ You dare not come here and get me ”, I am safe in daddy’s arm. After 2 or 3 calls from outside the door, the nanny must have given up as I did not hear her call again. For some reason, I choose not to take him outside back as I would normally do - which is why he probably ran to daddy in the first place and not to me J . What I did not know ...

Who can you compare to our God?

Children are a heritage from the lord and the fruit of the womb his reward (Ps127: 3). I believe these words concerning the children God has blessed me with, for which my heart thank him daily. One of the joys of having them is how I have come to understand some biblical truth just from their childlike actions, truth I may never have fully understood beforehand. One of those truth is around Who can I compare with my God? I am sure there is no need to emphasis that as with most 5 year old girls, my daughter believes her dad is everything, almost placing him at a near super human status. There is really nothing new or surprising about that. What still gets to me sometimes is how she expresses or vocalizes this believe but then, I learn every day. For example, one day while we were having our usual mother-daughter chit chat, she told me, almost as thou a question, “my daddy is the strongest person so he is stronger than a lion”. (Sweetheart you know I believe you are the beste...

"If I were God"

Some months back, I heard myself saying “Lord, not again, does it ever end? I really do think I deserve a break”. I remember at one point talking to a trusted confidant and saying it feels like as a Christian, you just move from one victory to another battle before you are done savoring the taste of victory. I don’t know if you have ever felt like you could do with a full year of NO challenges, worries, needs or wants around you. I certainly do…I mean it will be great to wake up every morning just praising, worshiping and thanking God, bringing no requests before him. God, been my ever present help in time of need, saw me through that battle and I thank him for His mercies. About the same time, I heard a sermon that mentioned Solomon’s love for foreign women and it made me to look a bit more into Solomon’s life. These two seemly unrelated incidents opened my heart to ask myself some really tough questions and answer those questions with honesty. Allow me to share with you, but fir...

If Only I have….

The other day my sister put on her blackberry dp “ Don’t let the thoughts of the grass on the other side stop you from enjoying the taste of yours ”. I found it so profound and it got me thinking some more J . The fact is not whether the grass is truly greener on the other side or not – and let’s face it few times it will – what is more important is how it affects your life today. In this fast paced world of ours, we can get so obsessed with what we don’t have, that we can’t take a moment to enjoy the things we have. Before I continue let me clear a few things upfront. First, this is not about been thankful – that’s a topic for another day J . Secondly, I don’t believe there is anything wrong in admiring God’s goodness in the life of others, or desiring to have something better for yourself. We should all have aspirations and dreams. My intent is to draw attention to a subtle menace that I believe is one of the enemy’s key strategies to derailing God’s children from their original p...

Does He still need to prove Himself?

The other day, I heard myself telling my daughter, ‘You see, Mummy actually knows how to get a few things done too. Infact, it might surprise you to know that at work there are people who look up to me for direction and coaching’. I doubt if this made any sense to her but I could not help but push back when for the uptempt time she had questioned my ability to do a simple handy task and suggested that it might be a good idea to wait for daddy. My h usband was away for a couple of weeks; and in this time, my daughter told me with the bluntness only a 4 year old can mutter, what she thought of my handy skills and apparently it wasn't much. It first started 3 days after her dad travelled, she came to tell me the clock in her room had stopped working, “It must be the batteries” I said, “I will buy new ones and replace it”. Her response was “Are you sure you know how to change the batteries? I think it will be a good idea if you wait for daddy”. WHAT!!! Can you imagine ...

Promise backed by Ability & Willingness to deliver.

All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose”. Romans 8:28 is one of my favourite Bible verses. I even had this verse written out and placed on my desk at work as a constant reminder that whatever happens today is part of a bigger plan for tomorrow’s good. I was pretty confident that I understood the promises contained in this passage until recently when the Holy Spirit expanded the scripture further to me. Before I continue, let me provide some background. First, I do believe the Bible and everything in it because it is the word of God. However, sometimes when I read or hear a scripture, I find myself seeking to understand how this could be? I have attributed this to my science background and the quest to always find the logic in everything. God in His mercies sometimes allows me to have experiences or illustrations that give me a better understanding. Today I want to share one of such illustrations which is around Roman...

Because You are my hope

The psalmist says “I look to the hills from where cometh my help … my help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth” (Ps 121). What a great assurance!!! My hope & confidence are from the creator of the heavens and earth.  That is indeed very comforting and reminds me of an Ibo saying which translates to “Hunger that has hope of been fed does not kill”. The human mind is amazing. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel can keep you going longer than you own strength will. In case you are wondering where I am going with all this, I was at a baby shower recently and an incident happened that reminded me of a very important lesson that we tend to often forget and I will like to share with you. But first let me share what I call “my baby shower story” Couple of weeks ago, I attended a baby shower. The mom in question was a first time mom. Everything went on fine and soon it was time to share words of wisdom with the new mom.  You know advice is one thing th...
