TAKE THE CHALLENGE - Dare to believe Him

A friend shared a story recently about her 4 year old daughter that taught me more on believing God than many sermons I have heard on this subject. Let’s call the little girl Cathy.

One day, Cathy’s father brought a goat home. The goat was meant to be used for food, but spent a couple of days in their home before the butcher came for it. However, the few days the goat stayed Cathy loved coming outdoors to feed it. One Saturday she came out and discovered that the goat was no longer there. This made her sad. In a bid to comfort her, her daddy took her aside and had a chat with her. Later in the day Cathy’s mum saw her having a meal and asked her “why are you now eating”? She had declared earlier she would not eat anymore - and her answer was simple and straight “My father said he will buy me another goat”

My friend & I know that it was really unlikely they will buy a goat for pet, but that was besides the point. Her simple statement really got me thinking. When will I start believing my Father? God has several promises for me. He is the one who can do all things, but yet I struggle with believing these promises.

Cathy did not believe because she saw another goat. No, she believed because her father said so. For her, his word was just enough to settle the matter.  I really cannot say if Cathy’s dad had broken a promise to her or not – this is likely as most of us parents do sometimes. But even that did not count. However, I have a Father who never breaks a promise, who has the power to do all things (Luke 18:27), who has only good plans for me (Romans 8:28) and yet I still struggle to believe him.

I learnt a lot from this little girl. Her simple faith in the ability and love of her father was all she needed. No wonder God said we should be like little children (Mathew 19:14).

His ability to do all things is not in doubt – there is evidence of it in the Bible, in the life of great men & women and even in our everyday circumstances. He is still the same God yesterday – who parted the sea just for His people to walk on dry land, gives babies to the barren, heals the sick & broken – today and forever.

Later that day I said a simple prayer for my self – Lord, help me to believe you. Help me to constantly rest in the assurance that all things work together for my good. You said if I ask anything in prayer AND BELIEVE, I will receive (Mathew 21:22).

I will say the same prayer for you. God please help the person reading this passage to believe you. And the ones who do not know you, that they may know you. AMEN

Remain Blessed
