Promise backed by Ability & Willingness to deliver.

All things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose”.

Romans 8:28 is one of my favourite Bible verses. I even had this verse written out and placed on my desk at work as a constant reminder that whatever happens today is part of a bigger plan for tomorrow’s good. I was pretty confident that I understood the promises contained in this passage until recently when the Holy Spirit expanded the scripture further to me.

Before I continue, let me provide some background. First, I do believe the Bible and everything in it because it is the word of God. However, sometimes when I read or hear a scripture, I find myself seeking to understand how this could be? I have attributed this to my science background and the quest to always find the logic in everything. God in His mercies sometimes allows me to have experiences or illustrations that give me a better understanding. Today I want to share one of such illustrations which is around Romans 8:28.

It started one day when I felt everything that could go wrong in a day had gone wrong already and it was not even noon yet. I looked at the writing on my desk and thought; how can good possibly come out of all this. I continued my day as they say “hoping for the best and fearing for the worst”. So it was quiet a humbling experience when at lunch time, a friend got talking about Rom 8:28. One thing she said struck me “even when things are originally meant for bad, God can still turn them around for good for those who love Him and are called according to his purpose”. I can’t even remember how the usual lunch time conversions got to that - talk about timing.

I began to understand that when God says “all things work together for good…” it is a promise backed by the ability and willingness to bring it to pass. God reminded me that He alone is the creator of ALL THINGS for the bible says in the book of John, “through him all things were made: without him, nothing that was made was made.” (John 1:3). Even above that, He controls all things - for God placed all thing under His (Christ) feet and appointed him to be the head of over everything (Ephesians 1:22). In summary there is nothing that can affect us on earth that He does not have power over. The next question for me was, God, I know you can do all things, you are Almighty, but why would you bother with me today especially if I have messed up everything on my own. I will never forget the answer – Because I love you. I made the ultimate sacrifice for you already, remember. (John 3:16).

Dear Friends, there is absolutely no situation that good cannot come out, as long as you have the master creator crafting things out for you. So when next you read Romans 8:28, read it with confidence that He who makes this promise to you is able and willing to bring it to pass.

Remain Blessed.
